-hood, etc Various points-

Childhood
 motherhood
- HOOD suffix, for example, , childhhood:

Like Spanish, There is sometimes  the fact of being, sometimes the TIME of being, sometimes both, and more. Compare  Childhood , the  years that you ARE a child,=niñez, with Motherhood, = maternidad, the fact of being a mother
Let's look at words meaning a period of time in your life: with all these, you say "In my..In her.., In..etc
babyhood  (latin root + anglosaxon suffix .We can also  use infancy)
Childhood (, which males can call boyhood and females girlhood)
Adolescence (from the latin. cf an adolescent)
*youth1 ( , say, preteen or late teens to ? the word is used very elastically)
Adulthood (again, latin root +hood)( You can use manhood and womanhood  for reaching maturity, tho more often they are used with other meanings, maturity isnt used much as a period of life) manhood**, for men , and womanhood**, for women, are also sometimes used in this sense.
(+ or - early/late )middle age
old age ( we seldom use the old-fashioned dotage)
When she  was a child.../.. is the same as In her childhood....or even, when the context is clear, just In childhood
When she was a child, she studied with the nuns= in her childhood, she studied with the nuns.
*Polysemy: The word Youth gives Spaniards problems: it also has a countable meaning2 as "young man "Male ONLY.
Be careful, if you use "the youth" THIS is the meaning Englishspeakers will understand.
-As well as a period of a person's life, it also has the same collective general meaning 3, young people in general, all young people, male and female , WITH zero article (like faith, hope charity etc) meaning the same as La Juventud, in Spanish, and in modern English, typically taking a plural verb.
In his youth1 , the youth 2stayed in a Youth3 Hostel
The adjective "youthful"(=juvenil) again is applied to bothsexes, and comes from meaning 1.
That actress only maintains her youthful face by plastic surgery
** more polysemy: manhood2 especially is used to translate the ideal characteristics of a man, = hombria, bravery, gravitas, authority, justice, or perhaps the somewhat more physically capable ones= redbloodednesss, virility (virilidad), and 3 via metaphorical extension, the word is used as a semi-tabu euphemism for the male genitalia . Womanhood is used much less in equivalent meanings.
-Other
You must have met "neighbourhood"(often shortened to 'hood in USA
A hoodie is a garment with a hood(=Capucha,  remeber little red riding-hood and the wolf), or a young neighbour(hood) person in a hoodie - , just normal or perhaps dangerous or vanadalistic
